Beyond Beaches: Vipin Agnihotri Plans Documentary to Capture the Real Goa

There’s a familiar version of Goa that the world knows. Beaches, nightlife, and tourism. But filmmaker Vipin Agnihotri wants to tell a different story.

The Mumbai-based director is working on a documentary that aims to explore Goa beyond its surface appeal, focusing on its culture, history, and the everyday lives that define the state. To take this vision forward, he has written to Pramod Sawant, requesting a meeting to present the idea and seek support.

The project is built around a simple premise: Goa is more than a destination, it is an experience shaped by heritage and people. Agnihotri’s approach leans towards capturing this depth through cinematic storytelling that resonates with both domestic and international audiences.

In his communication, the filmmaker highlighted the importance of institutional backing in ensuring that such narratives are both authentic and impactful. A collaborative effort with the state could help position Goa in a more layered and compelling way on the global map.

If executed as envisioned, the documentary could shift how audiences engage with Goa, moving the conversation from tourism to identity.
