A Book for Every Middle-Class Dreamer: Why “SUCCESS BY CHANCE OR CHOICE” Speaks to Indian Families

Ravi Kapoor’s journey starts in a home where money was tight and dreams were big. Many Indian families will recognise it.

The hall at Prerna Utsav 4.0, Kendriya Hindi Sansthan, New Delhi.

New Delhi: Every middle-class family has a version of the same conversation: should the children take the safe job, or try something of their own? Ravi Kapoor, who launched SUCCESS BY CHANCE OR CHOICE at Prerna Utsav 4.0 in New Delhi on October 25, 2026, has lived both sides of that conversation.

Where the story begins

  • A father who worked a job
  • A mother who knitted sweaters
  • A school where some classmates came in cars, while he came on his father’s bicycle
  • A boy whose answer to “What is your hobby?” was always “Business”

He has spoken about these memories in his interview on Kuch Ankaha with Yashika.

What families can take from the book

  1. A modest start is not a limit. He built a first-generation business from 1998 onwards.
  2. Skills open doors. A gems and jewellery course he read about in Employment News set him on his path.
  3. Ambition needs patience. He tried several things before finding what satisfied him.
  4. Choose, then prepare. The book’s message is that success comes from preparation and choice.

For parents and children

The book can start a conversation at home. Parents can see that a child’s ambition can be built step by step. Young readers can see that they do not need a family business to build one.

Q&A

Is this book for parents or for young people? Both. It speaks to anyone who wants to do something big, and to families supporting them.

Does it tell readers to leave their jobs? No. It encourages them to make their choices deliberately and prepare for them.

What did the author say about Gen Z at the launch? That the book can help them decide their direction and work towards it.
